Biotechnology uses living cells and materials to create pharmaceutical, diagnostic, agricultural, environmental, and other products to benefit society. Biotechnology is a multidisciplinary science and rapidly expanding field. It is both a cutting edge technology and an applied science. Bioinformatics, on the other hand, is the application of computer technology to the management of biological information. It combines computer science with biology and genetics to gather, store, analyze and integrate biological and genetic information which can then be applied to drug discovery and development. Truly, Bioinformatics is an indispensable ally of researchers. The biotechnology industry is composed of five different segments: Bio-Pharma, Agri-Biotech, Bio-Informatics, Bio-Industrial and Bio-Services, each concentrating on a particular area. Bio-pharma deals with the production of vaccines, therapeutics and diagnostics. Agri-biotech deals with plant tissue culture, transgenic crops, biopesticides, and biofertilizers.

Master of Engineering or Master of Technology or Master of Science in Technology or Master of Engineering degree is a postgraduate program in engineering or technology field.ME/MTech degree program exposes students to a wide range of courses, combined with specialized research which culminates in a thesis. Such a combination gives students the breadth and depth necessary for pursuing careers in academics as well as industry.The residence requirements for ME/MTech program is four semesters. However, it is possible to get permission to spend one semester elsewhere.
